Photo of Public Management in an Era of Economic ChallengesThis lecture will be presented by Robert Goldenkoff and Julia Vieweg, both from the US Government Accountability Office.

Robert Goldenkoff has more than 20 years of program evaluation experience with the U.S. Government Accountability Office. Currently he serves as director on GAO’s Strategic Issues team, where he is responsible for reviewing the decennial census and other federal statistical programs, as well as government-wide human capital reforms.

Mr. Goldenkoff’s prior research areas have included transportation security, combating human trafficking, and federal statistical programs. He is the co-author of Federal Jobs: The Ultimate Guide (Arco). His articles on management, science policy, and other subjects have been published in Technology Review, Government Executive, Policy Studies Journal, and Public Administration Review. Most recently, he contributed a chapter on using focus group research to the Handbook of Practical Program Evaluation (Jossey-Bass).

Mr. Goldenkoff received his B.A. (political science) and M.P.A. degrees from the George Washington University. He was also a Presidential Management Fellow.

Julia Vieweg, Cornell MPA 2008, is an analyst at the Government Accountability Office (GAO). She is currently working on a project with a Homeland Security and Justice team that looks at crime rates along the U.S-Mexico border.

While at GAO, Ms. Vieweg has also worked on projects related to the Department of Defense’s Joint Intelligence Operations Centers, Correctional Officer Safety in the Federal Bureau of Prisons, and the U.S. Government’s Implementation of the Sudan Accountability and Divestment Act.

Prior to joining GAO, Ms. Vieweg worked as a teacher in the Fairfax County, Virginia Public School System. She also served as an intern at the State Department’s Office of International Religious Freedom, and as an AmeriCorps member serving in areas affected by Hurricane Katrina. She earned a bachelor’s degree in politics and government from the University of Puget Sound in 2005, and an MPA from the Cornell Institute for Public Affairs in 2008.
