Open House at Willsboro Research Farm

Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at 2:00pm to 4:00pm

Willsboro Research Farm (CUAES) 48 Sayward Lane Willsboro, NY

The Cornell University Willsboro Farm will hold an open house on Wednesday, July 10 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.  A tour of the facilities and research plots will leave the main office at 2:30pm.  Light refreshments will be provided.

Current projects featured at the open house include reduced tillage strategies for commercial vegetable production, short-rotation willow biomass production, grass biofuel production, forage grass and alfalfa variety trials, canola oilseed production, tomato leaf mold resistant varieties, adaptive nitrogen management, interseeding cover crops into field corn, organic wheat variety trials, heritage wheat varieties, and a cold hardy wine grape variety trial.

In 1982 E. Vreeland Baker, a Willsboro farmer and entrepreneur, donated his 352 acre farm to Cornell University for agricultural research and demonstration.  The facility, located along Lake Champlain at the base of Willsboro Point, has a range of soil types that are characteristic of northern New York and permit a variety of field experiments.  “Our mission is to conduct timely research that supports and advances agricultural enterprises in northern New York,” says Mike Davis, a research agronomist at the farm.

This event is free and open to the public.  For more information call 518-963-7492.
