JazzSpacesIthaca: Having been twice named “Best Female Jazz Vocalist” in Down Beat Magazine’s Readers’ Poll, Nancy Kelly exudes both old and new school jazz singing at the same time. Upon reflecting on her influences, Ms. Kelly says, “I listen more to horn players than singers -- Chet Baker, Miles Davis, and Louis Armstrong. But also singers like Billie Holiday.” The influence from horn players is evident as soon as you hear her trademark take no prisoner’s back to the roots bob/swing style. Nancy Kelly, vocals, with guitarist Bob Sneider,
Dino Losito on the Hammond B3, and drummer Jimmy Johns.
