Love Them, Hate Them, Eat Them – WEEDS! – An afternoon conversation with Professor Antonio DiTommaso , College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
We all know those pesky plants we call ‘weeds’. We've battled them in our vegetable gardens, perennial flower beds, lawns, and woodlots. Professor DiTommaso will define "what is a weed" and what characteristics make some plants especially problematic for people and animals. He will discuss some general management strategies for ‘staying ahead’ of these plants. Professor DiTommaso will end his presentation by describing some of his research on the invasive non-native vines known as swallow-worts (Vincetoxicum) and how they are impacting native plant and animal species including the Monarch butterfly.
