Award-winning scholar-activist Ruth Wilson Gilmore, professor of geography and director of the Center for Place, Culture and Politics at CUNY, will discuss police violence and mass incarceration at the 2016 Krieger Lecture in American Political Culture.
As police killings and misconduct emblazon newspapers' front pages and social media, and a flurry of reports and proposed reforms suggest that outrage will converge in action for change, this lecture contextualizes the current crisis.
Is so-called community policing the solution to police violence? This lecture explores continuities and changes in modern police practice and theorizes the form and substance of institutional change.
