The Impact of Farm Milk Production decisions
Dairy farm families are struggling with their fourth consecutive year of farm milk prices below their costs of production. Low milk prices have been a constant issue for dairy farmers for many years but at least there was some significant price recovery at least every three years or so.
These issues are impacting all dairy farmers no matter their volume of milk produced or location of their farm. Farmers are looking for a solution to this pricing problem that will address their immediate financial stress and persistent year to year price issues.
What Can Be Done?
Various milk supply influencing programs have been attempted in the past but none has had a sustained impact of farm milk prices. Are there additional programs that could work or have circumstances changed sufficiently that previous programs may show more positive results?
We need to gather all segments of the dairy industry together to discuss this problem and seek a solution that will work for dairy farmers and the marketplace.
Agri-Mark is organizing an open dairy meeting to be held in August in Albany, New York. Dairy farmers, industry leaders, experts, policy makers, the media and interested parties are all invited.
