Holiday Bake-Off for Kids

The 4-H Holiday Bake-Off is open to all youth, you do not need to be a 4-H Member to participate!

Participation Guidelines:

  • Open to youth 4–18 years of age; youth do not need to be enrolled in 4-H to participate; Cloverbud (4–7 years), Junior (8–12 years), Senior (13–18 years)
  • Each youth must have an adult helper/partner; they work together to bake/create their entry at home, then bring it to the contest.
  • Entry fee is one non-perishable food item, one new child's toy or $2 per eshibitor; to be donated to a local food pantry

Categories:

  • Cookies-all types, may be frosted but not decorated; 3 cookies/entry
  • Breads/muffins/rolls -all types; quick, yeast, bread machine; 1 loaf or 3 items of smaller product
  • Cakes/Cupcakes -may be frosted, not decorated; 1 cake (8x8 or 9x9) or 3cupcakes
  • Decorated Items-cupcakes, cakes, cookies, gingerbread; evaluated on visual appearance and will not be tasted
  • Healthy Choices-any baked product that is made with less fat, sugar or total calories by modifying a recipe, using an already modified recipe or making a traditionally healthy product such as Angel Food cake; indicate on recipe modifications made or why this is a healthy choice
  • Candies-any type; 3 items/entry

Details:

  • Every entry must include the Entry Form and recipe
  • Mixes may be used in creating the product; this must be indicated on the entry form
  • Bring your creations to the Cooperative Extension Education Center between 12:30-1:00pm on Saturday, October 13th; place them on the appropriate table
  • Evaluations will start at 1:30pm
  • Stay during the evaluations and make a craft
  • Awards will be made immediately after completion of evaluations
  • Cloverbud members will receive a certificate of completion and mini golden spoon award
  • All entries will receive a participation certificate; the winner in each category will receive the “Golden Spoon” award; the “Best In Contest” winner receives the Giant Golden Spoon Award
