Honorable Justice Jasti Chelameswar was born on June 23, 1953 at Pedda Muttevi, Movya Mandal in Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh, India. He graduated in Science (Physics) at Madras Loyola College and received his law degree from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, in 1976. Justice Chelameswar was designated as Senior Counsel for the High Court of Andhra Pradesh in 1995 and appointed as Additional Advocate General in the same year. In 1997, he was elevated as Judge of the High Court of Andhra Pradeshm, and he was appointed Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court in 2007. During this time, the jurisdiction of Gauhati High Court extended to seven states of Northeastern India (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura). In 2010, Justice Chelameswar was transferred to the Kerala High Court and assumed charge as Chief Justice of Kerala. He was elevated as Justice of the Supreme Court of India on October 10, 2011.
