Nieve, an eight-year-old Cuban girl, is torn between her artist mother, Eva and playwright father, Manuel, when they divorce and fight over her custody. Through her diary entries, Nieve reveals intimate details of a turbulent family life while painting a portrait of the social and political unrest and the debates between freedom and authority in Cuba during the 1980s.

The film is based on the autobiographical novel of the same name by Cuban writer Wendy Guerra, published in 2006.
