Profitable Crop Production: Inputs that Make Dollars and $ense
Cornell Cooperative Extension is holding five farmer discussion group meetings around the Capital region to discuss “Profitable Crop Production: Inputs that Make Dollars and $ense.” Led by Aaron Gabriel, Extension Educator, research will be presented and discussed to show the performance and profitability of various crop inputs for field crop production.
The choices of crop inputs to improve production continues to grow. Along with conventional pesticides and fertilizers, there are biological seed inoculants, pop-up fertilizers, foliar crop nutrients, organic soil amendments, and other inputs. Since low prices for dairy, cattle, and crops are reducing cash flow, farmers must choose wisely to profitably maximize crop yields.
Feed and crop production are the major costs for livestock farms. Keeping records and managing how crops are grown is key to overall farm sustainability. Some simple computer spreadsheets will be presented to help farmers measure and manage crops.
Each meeting will be held from 12:00 noon until 2 pm, starting with a pizza lunch and the discussion following. Please RSVP by contacting Tove Ford (518-765-3518, tff24@cornell.edu). For questions contact Aaron Gabriel (518-380-1496, adg12@cornell.edu).
