Dept of Comm Job CAMP
Thursday, March 1 at 11:00am to 4:00pm
ILR Conference Center, 4th Floor
The Department of Communication started a new tradition in 2010 connecting some of our distinguished alumni with students. This initiative builds on the department goals of introducing students to alumni in a meaningful and practical way at multiple points during their degree. This allows them to not only listen to the experiences of alumni with their degree but interact and create relationships with alumni creating mentorships that can last a career.
Job CAMP (Communication Alumni Mentorship Program)
This personal and professional development program was created to bring together Communication alumni and undergraduate students to facilitate and enhance internship and job preparation.
Goals
• Inspire students to imagine and plan to meet their great potential
• Demonstrate breadth & depth of career opportunities for Communication students
• Facilitate meaningful interaction between students and our alumni
• Share knowledge and practical advice on careers and job success
• Build relationships and mentorships between top alumni and students
Structure
This is a one-day career focused program in Ithaca leveraging alumni volunteers including the Communication Advisory Board and invited alumni. It will be a professional, interactive event targeting Communication students including workshops, talks, interactive activities and celebration. Some activities may include:
• Real project, thinking inside an industry
• Practice interviews, cover letter writing
• Industry panels, intimate and interactive
• Inspirational speaker
This program is executed professionally, modeling the mindset that we want students to enter into their jobs and internships with. We collaborating with the Communication Student Honors Society and the student run Slope Media in the creation of the program to best serve the need of students while leveraging our alumni who are our greatest asset.
