Abstract: The story of a man from modest and difficult beginnings in Wyoming who rose to be a key participant in the Manhattan Project (Los Alamos) during World War II followed by the Directorship of the Laboratory of Nuclear Studies at Cornell and then on to be the founder of today’s Fermilab.
