Cornell Club of Oregon and Southwest Washington - Exploring Marine Biology and Oceanography Lecture Series

In conjunction with the Exploring Marine Biology and Oceanography field experience at the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport, David Lonsdale '67 will be hosting a series of 3 free talks in May and early June.
The evening discussions explore topics related to the marine biology and oceanography along Oregon's coast, and will help build an understanding of the subjects and ideas covered during the weekend.
The illustrated talks will be held at O'Connor's , a casual dining restaurant and pub in Multnomah Village, 7850 SW Capitol Highway.
Come early and join the speaker for dinner and drinks from 5-7 PM before talks begin at 7 PM.
Talks are expected to end by 9:30 PM.
All Cornell alumni, parents, and families with kids over 14 are welcome to attend, and participants in the weekend experience are encouraged to participate.
Although the talks are free, registration is requested so we can plan for the right number of attendees.

TALK 1:

History of the Ocean - We will explore the roles of Oregon's coastal geology, along with atmospheric and planetary factors that affect functions of ocean systems.
TALK 2:
Tue, May 21
Environmental Influences and Marine Diversity – We will talk about the impacts of living in salty water and of atmospheric gasses on ocean life, with an overview of what is meant by the diversity of marine life.
TALK 3:
Tue, Jun 4
Survival of Species in the Ocean and What Role Humans Play – We will discuss how some common marine organisms are specifically adapted for ocean survival.
We will also look at the relationships humans have had with marine life, ending with a case study on the disappearance of Paci
