World-renowned Sangeet Samrat Chitravina N Ravikiran will be displaying his brilliant melodic skills on the chitravina, a modification of the traditional Indian stringed instrument Vina, at Cornell for the first time.
Chitravina N Ravikiran is one of the most visible ambassadors of Indian music and culture today. A slide instrumentalist, vocalist, composer, guru, author & orator, he is also the creator of the innovator of the concept Melharmony in world music. Ravikiran has over 600 classical Indian compositions to his credit and is the only Indian composer to have created pieces in each of the 35-talas of Carnatic Music. His pieces combine innovative traditionalism, inventive rhythms and often interesting lyrics and themes.
He will be accompanied by Ranjani Ramakrishnan on the violin, Vinod Seetharaman on the mridangam and Bhargavi Balasubramanian on chitravina.
