Chad Oppenheim and Val Warke: The Making of Practice

Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 5:00pm

Milstein Hall, Stepped Auditorium
943 University Ave, Ithaca, NY 14850, USA

Finding a job or internship is one thing, building your practice is another.

Come learn the difference and hear how it's done as Associate Professor Val Warke speaks with Chad Oppenheim (B.Arch. '94), founder of Oppenheim Architecture and Design.

Oppenheim is a Miami-based architect whose work has been praised for its ability to transform the prosaic into the poetic. Through passion and sensitivity towards man and nature, Oppenheim creates monumental yet silent architecture that elicits a site's inherent power.

A graduate of Cornell University and a fellow of the AIA, Oppenheim has lectured widely and taught at various architecture schools, including, most recently, Harvard GSD. In 1999, he founded Oppenheim Architecture (Miami, Basel, New York City), which has garnered global recognition at many scales: from large-scale urban architecture, hotels, and resorts, to private residences, interiors, and furnishings. The international practice has received more than 70 industry awards and distinctions, including 47 from the AIA and the AIA's highest distinction, the Silver Medal. The award-winning firm's work has been featured in more than 1,000 publications around the world, including multiple appearances in the New York Times and Architectural Record.
