The Third Cornell Classical Chinese Colloquium speaker of the 2017-18 year will be Associate Professor Steven Miles from the Washington University in Saint Louis giving a talk on October 20, 2017 entitled "Cantonese Migrant Networks: Two Stone Inscriptions from the West River Basin (粵東會館甲申年創造垻頭碑記 (1765) and 重建粵東會館碑記 (1788))"

At each session one participant presents a text in classical or literary Chinese. Attendees discuss historical, literary, linguistic, and all other aspects of the text, and work together to resolve difficulties in comprehension and translation. Presentations include works of all sorts, from the earliest times to the twentieth century.

No preparation required: all texts will be distributed at the meeting
