Prof. Francesca Bray, Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Edinburgh and Cornell's 2016-17 Hu Shih Distinguished Lecturer will give the third Cornell Classical Chinese Colloquium on April 21. Her talk is entitled "Of Turnips and Apricots: Livelihood and Lifestyle in the Northern Wei as Seen through the Agricultural Treatise Qímín Yàoshù 齊民要術"

At each session one participant presents a text in classical or literary Chinese. Attendees discuss historical, literary, linguistic, and all other aspects of the text, and work together to resolve difficulties in comprehension and translation. Presentations include works of all sorts, from the earliest times to the twentieth century.


No preparation required: all texts will be distributed at the meeting.

Please note that this session only will be held in the Asian Studies Lounge on the 3rd floor of Rockefeller Hall (374)
