1965 > Senegal > Directed by Ousmane Sembene
With Mbissine Therese Diop, Anne-Maire Jelinck
The story of a Senegalese maid who is taken to the Riviera by her French employers, where she discovers, that outside of Africa, she is simply a thing, no longer a person, but "the black girl." Sembene's first feature film made a profound impression at several international film festivals, and the evolution of African Cinema can be dated from this point. More at janusfilms.com/films/1811.
