The cost of thinking: metabolic control of synapse function
The Ryan lab is interested in understanding the molecular control points of synaptic transmission between neurons in the CNS. We develop and apply number of quantitative optical tools to probe the molecular basis of chemical neurotransmission. In this lecture I will discuss progress we have made in understanding local metabolic regulation of synapse function in particular how ATP is synthesized to match the burdens of synaptic vesicle recycling and the machineries it relies on to do this.
