A&S Career Conversation with Marilyn Laverty, Philosophy '76, President of Shore Fire Media

Friday, October 30, 2015 at 1:25pm to 2:25pm

Have an informal conversation with an A&S alum. This is an opportunity to learn about their career story and ask questions about themselves and their career field. This is a really valuable networking opportunity and a great way to learn about a career field or ask for advice on working in it. Career Conversations are meant to be small networking sessions designed to offer you the chance to get answers to your most pressing questions about a particular career field. The location information will be emailed to registered students a few days before the event.

Open to A&S undergraduates ONLY. Should there be space available two days before the event, it will become open to students from other colleges.

Marilyn Laverty is founder and president of Shore Fire Media. Shore Fire is known both for its blue chip roster of musical acts and also for its leadership in bringing new media strategies to its campaigns. Shore Fire's roster includes Bonnie Raitt, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Carole King, Zac Brown Band, and Lana Del Rey, and also represents venues, businesses, charities, books and non-music events. In 2011, Laverty was named one of Billboard Magazine's top 40 Women in Music. Before starting Shore Fire, Laverty was employed as an editorial assistant at the Ithaca Journal after graduation from Cornell, was a successful freelancer for U.S. and British music magazines, then became VP of National Publicity for Columbia Records.

Laverty graduated from the College of Arts & Sciences in 1976 cum laude in Philosophy. While at Cornell she was a member of the Cornell Chorus and worked at WVBR.
