State Fair Youth Building Project Registrations

Registration deadline: August 15, 2018

4-H Members who's projects were selected for display at the NY State Fair need to register them on this site. Projects not pre-registered and dropped off at the office by August 15th will not be accepted for display or awards.

Please review the notes that the Boonville Fair judges made about your project and review the State Fair criteria for the items you submit. Failure to follow the State Fair requirements may disqualify your item. The Oneida County Staff will have no control over the judging policy or procedure at the State Fair level.

Everyone that was selected to show projects at the State Fair received a copy of the State Fair book as well as Exhibitor Cards and Project Summary Statements. Please fill them out completely and accurately.

A note on the Summary Statement. These should be filled out in complete sentences and with valuable information given. If the question is: What did you learn? your answer should not be I learned how to paint. You need to elaborate " I learned how to double load a paintbrush and that different shaped brushes create different shaped brush strokes. It is much easier to make comma strokes with a round ended brush."

Leaders, Parents and 4-H Youth,

Please keep in mind that your projects should be ready to be displayed at the fair.
This means:

All artwork must be ready to hang. If frames are used they should not be broken, or framed upside down. For a simple mounting technique try attaching the artwork to a piece of foam board. Use a binder-clip at the top for hanging.
If you are submitting a poem or drawing. Do not submit it on a piece of lined notebook paper. Take the time to write it or print/draw it on a piece of cardstock then display it nicely. Perhaps put it in a frame or make a scrapbook page or greeting card.
Public Presentation Posters can be displayed. They will need to be on sturdy backing so they can be hung or propped up on a table. they do require a written description to assist the evaluator in understanding how the posters were used and what your presentation was about.
Jewelry should be displayed nicely as well. Mount it to foam core or place it in a nice box with cotton.
Vegetables should be fresh and clean. Read the fair book for more information. When selecting and displaying vegetables you want to select produce that would be sellable. This means clean blemish free and of consistent size.
Food should also be fresh and submitted according to the fair book.

When bringing your projects in to be judged you want them to look their best. Presentation is very important. As parents and leaders it is your responsibility to assist the youth in this endeavor.
